Doylestown Borough Council and the borough’s mayor stated support April 17 for keeping Linden Elementary School open and called on the Central Bucks School District to provide a “transparent, public process” for the community to provide input before any decision is made about the school.
In a resolution, the nine-member council said “Linden is a vital component of Doylestown Borough’s quality of life, attracting young families, promoting community and enhancing property values.”
With the borough’s largest housing boom in over a decade taking place, the resolution said, the “nearly 300 housing units under construction, will in turn generate more potential enrollment.”
Parents and other borough residents have been lobbying the council to call on the school board to reassess its recommendation to close the school, which has been a part of the community since 1959.
“Linden not only provides a strong public education, it is a true walkable “neighborhood school,” fostering strong relationships among students, teachers, staff and neighbors and is an integral part of the fabric of our broader community,” the resolution states.
The school should not only remain open, the council and Mayor “Noni” West said, “it should be celebrated and supported as an example of what is best in the Central Bucks School District and in public education.”
In November 2022, the district released an Enrollment and Attendance Boundary Study that recommended possible closure of Linden in the 2024-25 school year due to demographics and declining enrollment.
No action has been taken since then and there’s been no public discussion on the matter.
