Doylestown gallery shows Dean F. Thomas

Posted

Patricia Hutton Galleries in Doylestown Borough presents “Dean F. Thomas — A Solo Exhibition” now through Oct. 8.

Thomas paints in a style most closely associated with contemporary realism. The style is precise, exacting — every leaf and every blade of grass is defined and relished. But despite this kind of realism, there is a magic that borders on the mystical. The light can be mysterious and other-worldly. The paintings tell a story.

He received a B.F.A. degree from Glassboro State (now Rowan University) and moved to Bucks County in 1996. He loves to paint the local landscape, the Delaware River, the nearby lakes and back roads. He has a great respect for the Hudson River School.

“Their purpose was to examine the world around them in great detail in all seasons, and present the natural world with a reverence,” Thomas said in a statement. “That is my philosophy. That is why I paint.”

The artist is also an award winning printmaker, who does dry point engravings.

Thomas has received accolades for his work from Phillips’ Mill, Coreyell Gallery and the Tinicum Arts Festival. Paintings in the show will include iconic Bucks County scenery, including the Cuttalossa Creek, the Delaware River, and Lake Nockamixon.

Patricia Hutton Galleries is located at 47 W. State St., Doylestown.
