Doylestown at Dusk Car Show returns to borough streets

Posted

For the 14th year in a row, more than 500 cars, trucks and motorcycles will line downtown Doylestown’s West Court, West State, South Clinton, and Hamilton streets for the Doylestown at Dusk Car Show.

The show, returning Saturday, from 5 to 10 p.m., is one of Doylestown’s largest public events. It is organized by the Doylestown Rotary Club and attracts between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors to the center of Doylestown. The rain date is Sunday.

While celebrating everything automotive, the car show will also raise money for many worthy charities in the local community. Entrance to the public is free.

Doylestown at Dusk Chairperson and Doylestown Rotary Club President Helen Amelsberg said, “The Doylestown at Dusk car show is a wonderful family friendly tradition that brings people together to enjoy more than a hundred years of automobile progress for one important cause – serving the community. All proceeds will go back to local charities with the help of the Doylestown Rotary members. It’s a fun and fabulous day for all.”

Founded in 2009 by the late Bruce Rutherford, the show is mix of classic, collectible, exotic cars, and anything in between. One of the key attractions is along West Court and West State streets, where a record number of late model exotic cars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, and Porsches will be on display.

Antique fire trucks, American muscle cars, and precious antique automobiles and motorcycles will draw attention, and visitors can enjoy great food (all restaurants are open), activities for kids, and multiple vendors. This year there will be a record nine bands and entertainers playing throughout the downtown area culminating at the main stage at West Court and North Clinton streets.

A team of experienced car show judges will diligently inspect every vehicle and once their task is completed present two types of awards: the Top 40 and the Specialty Awards. Top 40 winners receive their awards at their vehicles prior to the main awards ceremony at 9 p.m.

Vice Chairperson Rick Millham said, “Everyone is invited to join the award winners at the Main Stage at 9 p.m. The Specialty Awards have 11 different categories, such as the Bruce Rutherford Trophy for Best of Show, the Mayor’s Choice (chosen by Doylestown Mayor Nonni West) and Longest Distance Award for the vehicle that was driven the furthest to attend the show.”

As a large portion of downtown Doylestown is closed to traffic, parking outside the immediate downtown area is recommended. There is a free shuttle bus from the Bucks County Parking Garage.
