Connie G. Whalen, 74, of Hellertown, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Marjorie Jones Martin and Thomas Scott Martin.
Connie was born in Steubenville, Ohio. She graduated from Wintersville High School and received a degree in family-child development from Ohio State University in 1970. Connie devoted her working life to the education of young children. Over the years she worked as a teacher in Head Start, nursery school, pre-school, day care, and kindergarten. Connie was the director and head teacher of St. John’s Nursery School in Bernardsville, N.J., from 1988 to 2003.
Connie is survived by her husband of over 52 years, John T. Whalen, her two daughters: Dana (Robert) Alkhas of Hellertown, Laura Whalen of Bethesda, Md., and grandchildren: Riley Alkhas and Joshua Alkhas. She was preceded by her sister: Terri Martin Mutch of Glendale Calif.
Connie was active in her church, enjoyed traveling, and loved to drive her convertible with the top down.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023 at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church at 45 Church St., Liberty Corner, NJ 07938.
