China’s acquisition of Taiwan need not be bloody

Posted

I agree with Brian Fitzpatrick that China will eventually acquire Taiwan. However, the U.S.A. should not take that as a threat to us, because China will not make war except to protect their borders.

While very busy colonizing economically on all continents, China has not militarily conquered any foreign territory that I know of. But Taiwan, as far from China as Key West is from Miami, certainly qualifies as a border region, and China will go to war over it.

The inevitable acquisition of Taiwan by China need not include a bloody war, however. The United States must accept that Taiwan is not only within the Chinese sphere of influence, but is a part of China.

Isn’t that the claim we make about Hawaii, 2,500 miles from our West Coast? The U.S.A. should build as many economic, cultural and educational ties and exchanges with Taiwan (and China) as we can, but make no promises to supply weapons or soldiers if war breaks out between Taiwan and China.

An unrealistic response to China’s claim to Taiwan could take millions of lives and cost billions of dollars. China will still take possession of Taiwan.
