Posted

Chal-Brit scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally past Perkiomen 10-7 in a thrilling Bux-Mont American Legion baseball game that saw five lead changes Sunday at North Branch Park.

Robert Pavlek started out on the mound for Chal-Brit and pitched three innings with three strikeouts.

Chal-Brit came out hot in the first inning. Graham Kelso knocked in a run, then Joseph Ruggiero recorded a two-run RBI single.

Perkiomen responded in the third inning with a double by Ryan Ferdock to knock in three runs. Liam Merolla stepped up with an RBI single to put his team up 4-3.

In the next inning, Chal-Brit put up more runs. Austin White hit a single, James Schaefer knocked in a run with a double, and Blake Amero got to second on a drop third strike, which sent in another run.

The 6-4 lead did not last long as Perkiomen would not back down.

The game was back and forth all evening. In the fifth inning, Perkiomen’s Sammy Zematis recorded a triple to set the tone for his teammates. Joshua Camacho followed his lead with an RBI single. Jacob Creneti hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie up the game at 6-6. Jack Schramm gave Perkiomen the lead with an RBI single.

Chal-Brit rallied together in the sixth inning to end up back on top. Chase Alexander stepped up and hit a double down the right-field line. Pavlek did his job by drawing a walk and getting on base. James Schaefer stepped up with a single to load the bases. Kelso walked up to the plate and knocked in all three baserunners with a triple up the middle. Alexander Shuart sent Kelso home with a sacrifice fly to left field.

In the top of the seventh, Chal-Brit played lockdown defense and got three quick outs to earn the “W.” Chal-Brit’s first playoff game is Thursday against a TBD opponent.

Head coach Tim Shanahan shared how the season has been going. “We have a very young team and have certainly had our fair share of growing pains, but the boys always bring energy to the field and are always ready to compete,” he said. “It’s nice to head into the playoffs with a winning feeling, and Coach Mallon and I expect the boys to be ready for the challenge ahead of us.”
