The Ann’s Choice Jewish Residents’ Council was host to the Executive Director of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East and Research Fellow at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, Dr. Asaf Romirowsky, center, who discussed the impact of the Balfour Declaration in the establishment of the State of Israel. The Balfour Declaration is a letter from Arthur James Balfour, the British foreign secretary, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild (of Tring), a leader of the Anglo-Jewish community, that declared a Home for the Jewish People. While this letter predates the British Mandate for the area that now includes Israel, it was used by the British and several other countries, including the United States, as a premise to the establishment of the State of Israel. There were approximately 100 residents of Ann’s Choice in attendance. With Dr. Romirowsky are Joe Shrager and Phyllis Halpern, JRC president.
