Council Rock South lost its first two volleyball matches.

That was so August. The Golden Hawks haven’t lost since.

CR South (18-2) carries an 18-game win streak into the District One 4A volleyball tournament, which started on Tuesday night. The Golden Hawks went a perfect 12-0 in conference on their way to claiming the SOL National title.

The strong regular season performance earned the Golden Hawks a first-round bye in the tournament. They will host No. 13 Strath Haven, a 3-2 winner over No. 20 CB East in Tuesday night’s first round. The Patriots (12-7) won the SOL Continental this fall after earning a share of the crown in 2021. Senior Katie Mongahan recorded her 1,000th career assist in East’s 3-0 sweep of Villa Joseph Marie on Oct. 17.

No. 12 CB West (14-4), the Continental runner-up, brought a four-game win streak into Tuesday’s first round game against No. 21 Spring-Ford. The Bucks stretched the Rams to the limit but ultimately fell 3-0 (26-28, 24-26, 22-25). Alexis Barklage paced West with 10 kills and a block. Rachel Hu and Hollis Walton combined for 11 kills and had one ace each. Spring-Ford takes on No. 5 Lower Merion in Thursday’s second round.

No. 1 New Hope-Solebury (13-7) plays No. 2 MaST Charter (11-5) on Thursday at William Tennent in District One 2A action. The winner will face the District 11 2A champion on Nov. 3 to determine a PIAA berth.

The top-seeded Lions have punched above their weight this year, defeating 4A playoff teams CB East and Abington. Mia Chuma, a Georgetown commit, recorded her 1,000th kill in the CB East game. NH-S is seeking a repeat states berth and its fifth trip in seven years.

No. 1 Faith Christian (15-2) and No. 3 Sacred Heart will also face off on Thursday at Tennent in a Class A sub-regional. The Lions topped No. 4 Chester Charter 3-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal, the same night that No. 2 Upper Bucks Christian (12-3) fell to Sacred Heart in the other semi 3-0. Thursday’s winner faces District 12 champion Maritime Academy on Nov. 1 to determine the area’s PIAA representative.

The first round of the state volleyball tournament for all classifications begins on Nov. 8.
