Legion roundup: Pennridge starts hot

Posted

There are some wrinkles to the 2023 Bux-Mont American Legion baseball schedule.

Seven teams comprise the Bux-Mont league this summer as Warrington, Lansdale and Pottstown do not field squads. The league also felt ripples from the deep state playoff runs from CB West, North Penn and Archbishop Wood. Despite the league opening on May 23, and most teams scheduled to open the next weekend, Nor-Gwyn (North Penn) has taken the field just twice as of press time. Doylestown (CB West) also had to postpone several opening games.

Last year, both Pennridge and Quakertown represented Bux-Mont in the Region 2 tournament. This year, it looks like a repeat could happen. Pennridge (6-1) has the most potent offense in the league and has allowed just 15 runs in its first seven games. The team’s lone blemish was a 4-3 loss to Quakertown on June 8.

Speaking of the Blue Jays, Quakertown (3-1) has yielded three or fewer runs in its first four games, a good recipe for wins. Their lone loss was a 2-0 pitcher’s duel to Pennridge on June 5. Plumstead (3-2) enters press time above .500 and in third place after two big road wins – a 6-4 Friday triumph at Nor-Gwyn and a 6-5 Monday victory at Perkiomen.
