Food trucks feed Doylestown Hospital workers

Posted

Doylestown Hospital employees from every part of the diverse team that makes the health care system work were treated to lunch from two food trucks, along with live music from musicians on the back of a pickup.

A long line of workers, some wearing blue scrubs, some in white lab coats, all with masks, snaked along the edges of a parking lot, chatting, as they queued up to the trucks for hot dogs and chips. As they waited, music from Joey DeNoble and Keith Garner kept the mood upbeat.

“It’s nice to be appreciated,” said Maureen Balshem, a patient transport manager, while she waited. “The music makes it pleasant.”

Sherine Subero, a housekeeping aide, said the lunch and recognition of the staff’s hard work was “just great.”

For Eileen Volk, the heartfelt message of support meant a lot. “I think it’s nice for the community … that everyone is helping us, grocery store workers and first responders,” said the radiology technician.

“Thank you for supporting us,” added radiology tech Sandra Rabenold.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Larry Borden, the CEO of Aardvark Mobile Tours, has taken his modified mobile marketing trucks to Philadelphia-area hospitals, including Lankenau, Einstein and Bryn Mawr. With a high school friend working as a nurse in Doylestown Health’s emergency room, he decided it would be nice to bring the food trucks to the hospital.

Borden’s effort is supported by Dietz & Watson, Herr’s, Bimbo and Entenmann’s, as well as Ardmore Toyota.
