Doylestown cancels Memorial Day Parade

You’ll have to wait another year.

With COVID-19 still a concern, Doylestown Borough officials and representatives of United Veterans of Doylestown have decided the popular Memorial Day Parade that attracts thousands into the community will not be held this year, the borough announced this week.

The decision “did not come lightly,” borough officials said in a statement, adding, “we are keenly aware of the importance of the parade to the community.”

However, with social distancing requirements, crowd limitations and the fact that many of the marching units could not participate, the parade became impossible to hold in a safe way to all involved, the borough said.

There are still a number of Memorial Day events that will take place and be open to the public, both in person and virtually.

From musical performances by Central Bucks high school bands to a 9 a.m. flag raising at War Memorial Field by the Marine Corps League; a 10 a.m. flag raising at Monument Square by the Vietnam Veterans of America and an 11 a.m. commemoration at Doylestown Cemetery, various events will take place, with social distancing.

“The parade committee is committed to providing a proper remembrance of those who gave their lives for our nation and our freedom,” the borough said.

More details will be available in the coming days.
