Yvonne Johnson, daughter of the late Nannie Jones and the late David Thomas Jones, was born on April 5, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, Va. She departed this life on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023.

Yvonne was educated in the local school of Pittsylvania County and was a member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Charles Victor Johnson of Lambertville, N.J. She had moved to Lambertville approximately 67 years ago and was a union shop steward and cashier for Acme Markets, before retiring in 1998.

Yvonne was a beautiful, kindhearted woman who was loved and respected by many. She taught her children to always be kind and show respect. She loved telling stories about the good old days. She was a great cook, loved baseball, a good movie and a good book. Her smile was contagious. She loved to laugh, sing, dance, play a little rummy and listen to the oldies.

Yvonne leaves to mourn her passing: three children, David Jones and his wife Margaret of Lambertville, N.J., Richard Jones of Annapolis, Md., and Victoria Moats of Annapolis, Md.; her granddaughter Tamara LaShawna Jones of Ringoes, N.J., her sister Jane Johnson of Ewing, N.J.; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Yvonne was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother-in-law and one brother: Lillian “Jack” Mars of Virginia, Christina Pittman and brother-in-law William Pittman of Browns Mill, N.J., and Joe Lewis Jones of Pittsylvania County, Va.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York St., Lambertville, NJ 08530. Rev. David Errickson of the Old Rocks Church of West Amwell will officiate. Interment will follow at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township, N.J.

There will be calling hours at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
