Wrightstown approves road work contract

Posted

Road improvements are remaining a focus for the Wrightstown Board of Supervisors.

At a public meeting Monday, the elected three-person board that locally governs the municipality approved a contract with Asphalt Maintenance Solutions for $156,224 that will see the contractor tackle two road projects in the township.

The first project will consist of AMS performing chip seal coat work and line striping on Park Avenue.

“We had previously authorized base repair work, which will begin shortly,” said Supervisor Chair Chester Pogonowski.

The second project AMS will perform consists of applying a Surry Seal treatment to Alexander Court and Parsons Lane.

Slurry Seal is a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion, aggregate (very small crushed rock), and additives to an existing asphalt pavement surface. Supervisors believe the treatment will be a good fit given issues on the roads in question.

“We had previously done a chip seal coat on these streets in late 2022 and received numerous complaints about the rough surface,” Pogonowski told the Herald. “Last year we prototype-tested the Slurry Seal application on Penns Park Road after the initial chip seal coat was completed. This provided a ‘smooth’ driving surface that meets expectations. We are now expanding its use.”

Pogonowski said there’s not a hard and fast timeline for the projects, but shared that they would likely be executed during the earlier part of summer this year. “The hot weather helps to level the chip seal for a smoother driving surface,” he said.

Wrightstown officials have discussed other road projects of late. One includes stream bank stabilization measures on Cedar Lane, while another would look to replace a corrugated metal culvert on Thompson Mill Road, near the township border with Upper Makefield. The culvert is deteriorating and will need replacing.
