Works by Jewish composers get grand reception

Posted

Kehilat HaNahar (The Little Shul by the River ) in New Hope hosted a Jewish Legacy concert Sunday, Oct. 20, that was attended by over 50 members of KHN and the broader Delaware Valley community.

The concert consisted of works by Jewish composers of the last century, including Russian-American immigrants, Holocaust victims, and contemporary composers from Israel and the United States.

It was performed by Dr. Paul Cohen, one of America’s most sought-after saxophonists for orchestral, chamber and solo concerts who has appeared with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera.

Joining him on the piano was Allison Brewster Franzetti, an internationally known soloist and chamber musician who has won multiple Grammy nominations.

Cohen is also a music historian and teacher. He provided biographical information about each of the composers, some of whom managed to escape the Nazis during the Holocaust and others who did not.
