Woodside Christian Preschool in Yardley were welcomed by the sounds of baby chicks

Posted

Students and teachers at Woodside Christian Preschool in Yardley were welcomed by the sounds of baby chicks chirping from their incubator when they came into school March 20.

In partnership with Quiver Farm, WCP accepted 12 eggs and took care of them for a week, turning them regularly and keeping the incubator at a consistent temperature like a mother hen. Three baby chicks hatched early Monday morning, with three more that emerged from their eggs throughout the morning.

WCP has been participating in this program for over two years.

“It’s a great opportunity for the kids to learn about animals that come from eggs. We talk about it in books, and then we can show them in real time what happens,” said veteran teacher Sharon Latsch. “There are a lot of lessons we can do about spring and ultimately relate the story of Easter, highlighting Jesus and rebirth.”

Kids are excited to see the chickens after they’ve hatched and enjoy watching them huddle together in the brooder box. “I love having the chicks at school because we get to see baby chicks all the time,” exclaimed transitional kindergarten student Lola.

WCP will host the chicks until the end of the week, when Quiver Farm will pick them up and return them to the farm.
