With new hire, Hilltown police back to full staffing

Posted

An Army veteran has joined the Hilltown Police Department.

At a public meeting on May 22, the Hilltown Board of Supervisors approved the hiring of a new police officer for the township force – Ryan Thomas Miller.

With the hiring, Hilltown police have filled the open positions at the department and are again at 18 officers, a number that includes Police Chief Christopher Engelhart.

The chief shared that Miller is a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He has been a police officer too, having worked for five years with the City of Algona Police Department in Washington state before moving back to Pennsylvania.

“His prior police experience will make him a good fit and help expedite his transition to Hilltown,” said Engelhart.

Miller’s hiring comes about a month after Hilltown supervisors approved the hiring of another new police officer – Deslyn Weaver. Weaver is a 2022 graduate of the Montgomery County Police Academy who formerly worked in the health care field.

“We were very impressed with her during the hiring process,” Engelhart has said. “She exhibited a great attitude and desire to become a police officer.”

Hilltown police had the two openings following the autumn 2022 resignation of one officer, who left for another department, as well as this year’s resignation of a sergeant, who decided to leave the law enforcement profession.
