Williams Township Historical Society co-founders honored

Posted

The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) presented Ned and Linda Heindel with the Award of Excellence for 45 years of service to the Williams Township Historical Society.

The Award of Excellence is part of the AASLH Leadership in History Awards, the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation of state and local history.

The Williams Township Historical Society celebrates its 45th anniversary this year and sought to honor two of its founders, Ned and Linda Heindel, who continue to serve with great distinction today. Ned was the chair and Linda the secretary of the township’s 11-person Bicentennial Committee, who researched, wrote, and published the “Bicentennial History of Williams Township” in 1976. In 1977, the members of that Bicentennial Committee, realizing there was a lot more township history to uncover and an interest to do so, formed the WTHS and served as its first board of directors.

Ned was the first WTHS president, a position he held for several decades before stepping down to continue to serve as a Board Member, and Linda served as the first WTHS secretary/treasurer, a position she still holds today.
