This week saw the deadline to file nominating petitions come and go for candidates who plan to run for state representative in 2024.
Here’s a first look at the candidates who filed to run for seats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Bucks County. They are listed in order by district number.
In the 18th District, which covers Bensalem Township and Hulmeville Borough, incumbent Republican Kathleen Tomlinson, of Bensalem, will face a challenge from Democrat Anand Gunvant Patel, a GNC franchisee living in Bensalem.
In the 29th District, incumbent Democrat Timothy Patrick Brennan, of Doylestown Borough, is being challenged by Buckingham Township Auditor Steven Mekanik, a Republican. The 29th includes Buckingham, Doylestown and Solebury townships as well as the boroughs of Chalfont, Doylestown, New Britain and New Hope.
In the 31st District, it appeared on Thursday as though incumbent Democrat Perry Warren, of Newtown Borough, will be unopposed in both the primary and general elections. The 31st includes Lower Makefield, Upper Makefield and Newtown townships as well as the boroughs of Newtown and Yardley.
A rematch is shaping up in the 140th District, as both Democrat Jim Prokopiak and Republican Candace Cabanas have filed nominating petitions for the 2024 cycle. Prokopiak this week bested Cabanas in the special election to fill the vacant seat in the district covering Falls, part of Middletown Township and the boroughs of Morrisville and Tullytown.
In the 141st District, Democratic incumbent Tina Davis faces a challenge from Republican Noah Jesse Boyd, an insurance agent from Bristol Township. The district includes Bristol Borough and Bristol Township.
In the 142nd, Republican incumbent Joseph F. Hogan IV will face a challenge from Middletown Township Supervisor Anna K. Payne, a Democrat who works as an administrative assistant for the Bucks County Commissioners. The district includes Lower Southampton and parts of Middletown and Northampton townships, plus the boroughs of Langhorne, Langhorne Manor and Penndel.
In the 143rd District, Republican incumbent Shelby E. Labs, of Plumstead, faces Tinicum Township Supervisor Eleanor M. Breslin, an attorney and Democrat. The district includes Plumstead, Tinicum, Bedminster, Hilltown and a portion of New Britain Township. It also includes the boroughs of Dublin, Perkasie, Sellersville and Silverdale.
In the 144th District, Democratic incumbent Brian Munroe, of Warminster, will face a challenge from Bucks County Recorder of Deeds Daniel J. McPhillips, a Republican from Warminster. In addition to Warminster, the district includes Warrington, part of New Britain Township and Ivyland Borough.
In the 145th District, Republican incumbent Craig T. Staats, of Richland, will face Democrat Vera J. Cole, of West Rockhill, where she formerly served on the conservation and open space committees. In addition to Richland and West Rockhill, the district includes Bridgeton, Durham, East Rockhill, West Rockhill, Haycock, Milford, Nockamixon and Springfield. It also includes the boroughs of Riegelsville, Trumbauersville, Quakertown, Richlandtown and the Bucks County section of Telford.
Finally, in the 178th District, Republican incumbent Kristin Marcell, of Wrightstown, will face a challenge from Democrat and Warwick resident Emma Flora Rosenthal, a social media influencer, Central Bucks East field hockey coach and daughter of former Bucks County Recorder of Deeds Robin Rosenthal. In addition to Warwick and Wrightstown, the district includes Upper Southampton and a portion of Northampton.
