Letters to the Herald

We should all strive to learn pros and cons of both sides of an issue

Posted

The League of Women Voters of Bucks County appreciates the letter from Curt Biehn in the Oct. 6 edition of the Herald in response to a League article titled “The three categories of eligible voters: AVs, SVs, and NVs” from the previous week.

This article listed some of the important issues facing voters in the November election: “the economy, climate change, abortion, guns, etc.” Mr. Biehn states that this list reveals the partisanship of the League. We disagree.

issues are not partisan. For every one of the issues listed, there are those who believe the country should go in one direction and others who prefer the opposite. Some, possibly the majority, believe that there is room for compromise.

Every one of these issues is complicated and we should all strive to learn the pros and cons of both sides, and then decide for ourselves what we think. We should carefully choose our sources of information.

The League believes that every voter should decide which issues are important to him or her and then learn where each candidate stands on those issues.

Resources, such as the League’s Voters Guide, which will appear in this paper on Oct. 20, can be helpful.

We urge you to understand the issues and to Vote.

Jean Weston and Sandy Kerr

Co-Presidents, LWV of Bucks County
