Virginia “Pat” Morrow

Posted

I am Pat Morrow. My parents named me Virginia Michaely, but I’ve always been called “Pat.” I was born in Philadelphia on Feb. 25, 1930 and was the third in a line of six children. My sisters Jane (Moffett) and Ruth (Custer) are left.
Our mom was gone by the time I was 6 years old. Our dad, Raymond Michaely, moved us to Langhorne Pa., when I was 13. From the age of 6 to 13 we moved to various foster homes. I graduated from Langhorne High School now known as Neshaminy and dreamed of going to art school. In those days, that was not to be. After falling in love with Charles Morrow, we married in 1949.
We spent most of our lives in Langhorne, Pa., raising our seven children. Most of those years I spent as a full-time mom and homemaker, den mother, Girl Scout leader, Catholic church member and volunteer, a junior league member, PTA member, and all things family related. I guess I always volunteered in every way imaginable; cooking, sewing, hand holding, costume maker, peace maker, caregiver and steadfast supporter of Charlie. When the children were older, I had a career as a bank teller at First National Bank of Newtown. I loved life and it seems people found my “ways” comforting. We always had room for “one more” at our dinner table.
Charlie and I retired to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia when our last child took flight. We treasured our time together for many years. Being out in the Virginia Mountains made my heart sing while our church, community and extended family filled our lives. I studied and became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteer in Franklin County, Va. I was proud to be part of CASA and felt fortunate to touch so many young lives.
After Charlie died in 2002, I eventually moved to be closer to some of our worldwide, scattered children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Our friends, neighbors and family loved my homemade apple pies, jellies and tollhouse cookies and I continued to love and support our children as best I could. I felt blessed by my lifelong friends and relished good books and music too. The last 11 years of my life were spent back in the Langhorne area at Twining Village where I met many new friends and reconnected with family and old friends from the area. I treasured all the many splendid souls who touched and brightened the wonderful journey of my life.
My immediate family is listed below. Unfortunately, I do not have room to list all my wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends whom I consider family as well.
