A bid to construct an equipment shed came in a bit higher than the Durham Township supervisors had expected, but they managed to cobble together enough funds to award it at the April board meeting.
The supervisors approved the bid of $52,300 from Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc., of Schuylkill County, to erect a pole barn at the township complex on Old Furnace Road.
Roadmaster Peter Cox said he had budgeted only $41,000 for the job; however, he said he had come out about $19,000 ahead on snow removal materials that were never needed during the warm winter.
The supervisors approved the spending of that money in addition to some leftover funds the township received from the American Rescue Plan Act in order to meet the cost of the project.
The board also approved the spending of $1,008 to cover the cost of a pole saw and arborist chainsaw needed by the road crew.
The roadmaster also said the road crew will be starting preparations for the repaving of Sherers Hill and Funks Mill roads.
Due to a conflict with an open house planned by Palisades Regional Fire and Rescue on Oct. 7, the supervisors have reset the date for Durham Community Day to Oct. 14.
The supervisors announced a vacancy on the township’s planning commission. They need to replace Brian Grzelkowski who resigned because he is moving from the township.
Resident Angelo Quisito asked the supervisors to petition PennDOT to place a sign forbidding right turns onto Red Bridge Road. He said he has seen a number of trucks stuck there because of the sharp angle and incline of the road where it meets Route 212. The board will look into the possibility of that.
