Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, announced that Home Medical and Respiratory Services recently received a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Pennsylvania ESGR is particularly proud to present Home Medical and Respiratory Services with the Patriot Award for their strong support of their employees serving in the nation’s Reserve forces during ESGR’s 50th Anniversary year.

Home Medical and Respiratory Services’ Tom Niwinski was nominated for the Patriot Award by Spc. David Lee, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion Stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

In nominating Niwinski, Lee said: “Tom is very supportive of me and my military services. He has supported my wife several times when I was away on military orders. He provided full pay during my time away in the Army. This is a great place to work, I am very much appreciated for my military service.”

Presenting the award to Niwinski on behalf of ESGR was Wes Craig, Pennsylvania Southeast Area chair. Craig commented: “It’s critical and an honor to recognize and pay tribute to those employers that hire and support our Guard and Reserve forces. It would be difficult for those in the uniformed services to perform their mission without employer support.

Upon receiving the award, Niwinski commented: “Veterans and guys in the Guard and Reserve make the best employees. They are on time, responsible, professional, dependable. Where can I hire more of them?”
