Tiny Forests get the spotlight in July at Trevose Horticultural Society

Posted

“Tiny Forests” will be the featured presentation at the monthly meeting of the Trevose Horticultural Society, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bensalem Senior Center, 1850 Byberry Road, Bensalem.

Jim Walter, a long-term Bucks County Master Watershed Steward and Master Gardener will speak about the dense, fast-growing native woodlands that are about the size of a tennis court.

Based on an established forest management method developed in the 1970s by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki, tiny forests are being developed all over the world. Learn about this interesting reforestation technique that can help reforest Pennsylvania.

Walter is also a member of the Buckingham Township Environmental Advisory Committee. He worked in the Agricultural Chemical Industry for many years.

All meetings are open to the public. A donation of $5 is requested from non-members. For information, call 856-866-9163 or visit www.trevosegardeners.org.
