Tinicum Conservancy invites community to annual gathering

Posted

On Sept. 24, the Tinicum Conservancy will continue its long-standing annual tradition of inviting all community members to enjoy an afternoon of delicious food, drinks and conversation on a property conserved by the Tinicum Conservancy.

“This popular event is a chance to celebrate the Conservancy’s mission to protect the quality of life for all residents while enjoying refreshments and a chance to converse with friends, new and old,” explained Conservancy President Neal Feigles. “It’s always a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to meet your neighbors!”

The setting for this year’s event will be the home of Jill and Stephen McDonnell, whose 83-acre farm in Tinicum Township was preserved in 2014. The property offers some of the area’s most scenic landscapes, with beautifully restored historic buildings surrounded by rolling fields, old-growth forest and numerous streams. It adjoins an additional 1,300 acres of conserved land. An optional walk of the property will start at 2 p.m. followed by the main event from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

A professionally accredited nonprofit organization established in 1992, the Tinicum Conservancy has protected more than 5,000 acres in Tinicum and five surrounding townships, including Nockamixon and Bridgeton townships. Conservation-minded landowners receive tax incentives and/or cash payments for agreeing to conserve their land. The Conservancy has a full-time staff of four, a board of trustees made up of local residents, and more than 70 volunteers. Together, they help to protect additional properties and safeguard the existing land under conservation easements.

The event is free for everyone, but you must RSVP by Monday, Sept. 19. To attend, call 610-294-1077 or send an email to mfell@tinicumconservancy.org. Shuttle transportation from the Del Val Fire Station parking lot will be provided. The event will occur rain or shine and move indoors if necessary.
