Tinicum Arts Festival announces judges for juried art exhibit

The Tinicum Arts Festival will return to the shady grounds of Tinicum Park in Erwinna, July 9 and 10.

Visitors can view the creations of over 140 artists and craft artisans displayed under the trees, discover treasures at the White Elephant Tent, choose from thousands of volumes at the Book Wagon, place a bid at the Silent Auction, enjoy live musical entertainment – all while savoring a fresh-squeezed lemonade, a sandwich or a home-baked dessert in the picnic grove. And there are special activities for children and summer fun for everyone.

The centerpiece of the festival is the Art Barn – the iconic bank barn which features a Juried Art Exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture. Jurors for the exhibit are: Christine McHugh of Richlandtown and Tom Chesar of Stockton, N.J.

McHugh has been painting scenic views beginning in Bucks County and leading far and wide for the past 24 years. She started on a rainy day in 1998 after finding a pan of her daughter’s watercolors – and inspiration has been her companion ever since. In addition to being the festival’s featured artist in previous years, McHugh has shown locally and on Cape Cod.

Chesar has been featured in numerous galleries and shows throughout the area, including the Tinicum Civic Association’s Stover Mill Art Gallery. He is the recipient of more than 80 awards and his paintings are represented in public and private collections throughout the country. “I have always thought that there is joyous magic in creating art and consider myself blessed to wake each day knowing that I will be able to paint,” he said.

The Tinicum Arts Festival is a favorite Bucks County summer tradition and the all-volunteer Tinicum Civic Association’s premier fundraiser – raising money for other nonprofit organizations in the area. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 9, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 10. For information, visit
