The Christmas Decoration Contest

Posted

In 1960, the Doylestown Panorama magazine sponsored a house decorating contest. “Lots of local folks will be decorating their homes with Christmas decorations and displays and the home that has the most unusual or most beautiful outdoor decorations will win ... a $20 gift certificate good at any Panorama advertiser’s store.
“When your outdoor Christmas decorations are up, take a snapshot (color or black and white) and attach it to the official entry blank and mail it. – Judging will be done by a group of impartial local citizens.”
In 2021, 61 Christmases later, Doylestown houses and businesses again will be competitively decorated, part of Christmas In Doylestown’s Outdoor Lights Tour, sponsored by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The self-guided tour will feature 30 lavishly decorated homes on display from Dec. 10 through Dec. 19.

The public will vote online to determine four winners, one in each category: Best Front Door, Most Creative Illumination, Best Themed Display, and Most Fun for Kids. Winners will designate a local charity to receive a financial grant.
