Terriers volleyball tourney fights cancer

Posted

Terriers Against Cancer raised $1,527 for the cause on Nov. 6 with Volley for Life, a volleyball tournament that involved 21 teams and almost 150 players.

The winners were the Wisconsin Badgers – Jack Bill (captain), Joey Kletter, Sam Gordon, Nick Catino, Enzo Badalamenti, Jake Small and Ryan Neal.

Almost all the teams wore coordinated outfits of some kind. Especially noteworthy attire were Val’s Sharks’ outfits; Delaware Valley Regional High School volleyball, who dressed as characters from “Despicable Me”; Servin’ up Aces, who played in aprons, plus a chef’s hat or two; and Baby Got Bump, who wore golden dollar-sign necklaces and backward ball caps in tribute to Sir Mix-a-Lot.

The contestants included a faculty team, led by the new English teacher Mike Fortino. The action involved both gymnasiums.

The event was emceed by Paige Brightwell, a co-president of Terriers Against Cancer. The other president is Jackie Smith, who worked the front desk and snack stand with Adrienne Wolfram.

Club advisor Jim Gessner helped the club organize the tournament, but was unable to attend. Teacher Molly Esposito stepped in to help that evening. The other advisor, Rick Epstein, just drifted around and took some group photos.

The money will either go to cancer research or to assist local cancer patients.
