Spend the extended Independence Day weekend at Washington Crossing Historic Park

Posted

The public is invited to spend the extended Independence Day weekend at Washington Crossing Historic Park (Pa).

The schedule of events includes:

– Saturday: During the park’s annual Colonial Field Day, families or friend groups can compete in spirited competition while playing popular games from the 18th century, including cup and ball, Jacob’s Ladder, hoop and stick, and more.

Competition begins at either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. and lasts an hour and a half. This event is free, but space is very limited and preregistration is required. Register by emailing kheugatter@FriendsWCP.org.

– Sunday: Car lovers can attend the fifth annual Rebels & Redcoats Classic Car Show on this day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In keeping with the park’s revolutionary history, this show will feature only classic American, French, British and German cars, representing the four major countries involved in the Revolutionary War.

The show will be held in the parking lot diagonal to the park’s visitor center and across River Road. This event is free for spectators. Car owners who would like to register their cars should visit WashingtonCrossingPark.org/events.

– Tuesday: Step back in time to July 4, 1776. During this special living-history event, visitors can explore a military encampment and watch Colonial townspeople demonstrate and sell their crafts from noon to 4 p.m. A highlight of the day will be readings of the Declaration of Independence at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

At 2:45 p.m. in the visitor center auditorium, historical interpreter David Price will give a short talk about “The Battle of Assunpink Creek: The Most Pivotal Moment of the Revolutionary War?” Price is the author of a trilogy of books about the “Ten Crucial Days of the Revolution.” He will be available to sign copies of his books, which are sold in the park’s gift shop.

Admission to this living history event is $8 for people 12 and over, $4 for children ages 5 to 11, and free for those under age 5, active-duty military, and members of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park. Families with up to two adults and two children living in the same household can purchase a single-family ticket for $20. All proceeds from this event support educational and historical programming in the park.

Washington Crossing Historic Park is located at the intersection of Routes 32 and 532 in Bucks County.
