Posted

The Eagles have landed, as champions of the Big Central Conference’s Freedom Silver Division.

South Hunterdon (6-1) ran the Freedom Silver table at Dunellen on Friday night, beating the Destroyers 40-22. The Eagles never trailed although the Destroyers tied it at 14 midway through the second quarter.

The win was South Hunterdon’s sixth in a row. It also improved them to a perfect 4-0 in their final divisional game.

Quarterback Anthony Venettone had touchdown runs of 16 and 30 yards as part of a season high 260 yards on the ground. He also completed two of five passes, both to Aaron Zalescik, including a 17-yarder that went for the game’s first score.

Ryan Rampel added two more touchdowns on the ground; an Edward Cooper 4-yard run capped the scoring.

The Eagles were also title winners in 2021, when they went 5-0 in the then 1B Division of the Big Central.
