Solebury won’t pay for flashing beacons at Fox Run

Posted

The Solebury Board of Supervisors shot down an idea from the Fox Run Homeowners Association (HOA) on Tuesday that the township pay for the installation and maintenance of flashing beacons at its Route 202/Silver Tail Lane entrance/exit.

Township officials argued that Route 202 is a state road and any improvements there are the responsibility of PennDOT, which claims a beacon is not needed.

Supervisor Chair Mark Baum Baicker said Township Manager Chris Garges met with HOA which “indicated it had no interest in contributing financially for the construction, installation or maintenance — stating that Solebury Township should fund 100% of installation and maintenance costs — despite the fact that Route 202 is a state road.”

Supervisor Robert McEwan suggested that since PennDOT won’t listen, they should hire a couple of buses and go down to Harrisburg to lobby and picket their state representatives for some action.

Another local group that found the supervisors more receptive to its cause Tuesday was the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury.

The supervisors agreed to increase its 2023 contribution from $125,000 to $130,000.

In other business, the board:

• Thanked Police Chief Dominick Bellizzie, Chris Clewell and the Public Works Department, and Dudley Rice from the Parks & Recreation Department for the success of the township’s Aug. 1 National Night Out event. Baum Baicker said he heard the attendance was up to 500 people.

• Accepted the resignation of Jacob Genoway from the land preservation committee and replaced him with Joseph Tartaglia, currently an associate member.
