Solebury School athletic director dies at 45

Posted

At this week’s Solebury Township supervisors’ meeting, Chair Mark Baum Baicker noted the Feb. 10 death of Solebury School faculty member and athletic director Rob Eichem at the age of 45. He died at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia “following a sudden onset medical event at his home on campus.”

“We often talk about many people who volunteer their time and energy — often under the radar — to make our community a better place to live. Rob Eichem was one such person,” Baum Baicker said.

Eichem first arrived at Solebury School in 2001, Baum Baicker said, and “taught English and history, and for the past 12 years, served as its director of athletics. Rob actively participated and coached in many of our Solebury Township Parks & Recreation sports programs – baseball, basketball, soccer – and coordinated the use of the Solebury School gym for our youth basketball program and our youth wrestling program through all those years.”

Baum Baicker continued, “He not only coached our Intramural basketball teams, but for the past six years was the head coach of our eighth grade boys travel basketball team. He also coached for many years in our baseball program and served as vice president of the Solebury Baseball League’s board of directors for five years.

“A genuine friend of the community, Rob leaves behind his wife, Rachel, and three young boys. Clearly, Rob Eichem was a pillar of this community and will be sorely missed. “

Solebury supervisors sent condolences to the Eichem family and Rob’s many friends and is working on a way to honor his legacy.

Information on the planned life celebration for Rob Eichem and how memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers can be found on the Solebury Township website.
