Solebury doctor named “Giant of Cancer Care”

Robert F. Ozols, of Solebury, has been named a 2023 Giant of Cancer Care in Gynecologic Cancers award recipient by the Oncology Specialty Group, publisher of industry trade periodicals.

Established in 2013, the awards program “celebrates physicians who’ve made significant contributions to the cure and treatment of those living with cancer,” the steering committee said in a statement.

Ozols was the first Audrey Weg Schaus and Geoffrey Alan Weg Chair in Medical Science at Fox Chase Cancer Center, where he also served as senior vice president and chief clinical officer. He retired in 2008, according to his bio on www.giantsofcancercare.com. Ozols also served as head of the Experimental Therapeutics Section of the Medicine Branch at the National Cancer Institute.

The bio notes his research in chemotherapy, treatment-resistant tumors and the development of new clinical approaches to treating patients with ovarian cancer.
