Solebury baseball, softball gear up for playoffs

Posted

The Solebury Spartan baseball and softball teams both earned first-round byes in the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association. Both will host quarterfinals this Thursday.

The Spartan baseball team went 6-2-1 (6-1-1 PJAA) to clinch the Blue Division regular season title. No. 2 Solebury takes the field in Thursday’s quarterfinal against No. 7 Phelps School, with the winner taking on No. 3 Barrack Hebrew or No. 6 Mastery Camden in next Tuesday’s semifinal.

The Spartans are looking for their first PJAA title since 2006. Solebury already owns mercy rule wins over Phelps and Barrack Hebrew, and a 9-1 win over Mastery Camden this spring. Solebury split its season series with top-seeded New Foundations.

Solebury’s regular season concludes on May 17, when it crosses the river to take on South Hunterdon.

Solebury softball has been worth the wait. Back after a three-year absence, the Spartans softball team finished their regular season 7-3, and posted a 7-2 record in PJAA White play. They outscored their conference foes 102 to 41 this spring.

No. 4 Solebury hosts No. 5 Cristo Rey on Thursday. The winner likely gets No. 1 Perkiomen in next Tuesday’s semifinals.
