Shad Fest returns to Lambertville

Posted

Shad Fest will be celebrated in Lambertville, N.J., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine.

The 40th anniversary festival of art, fish, food, and fun will include traditional vendors along Union Street, as well as a food court, a kids section, a home and garden section and locals lane. Live music will be happening all over town throughout the weekend.

In 1981, what began as a showcase for the local art scene, has evolved into a nationally recognized, award-winning event. Enjoy two-days, filled with hand-crafted art, jewelry, home goods, a variety of delectable food, music, and fun for the whole family.

The festival also includes an annual poster auction to fund the Jim Hamilton Shad Festival Scholarship Fund. Each year, local artists donate original works of art, which the public purchases through an auction to fund two $10,000 scholarships given to local students pursing a college degree in the fine, performing or culinary arts.

The posters will be on display Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A silent auction closes at 2 p.m. Sunday. The live auction takes place at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 27 N. Union St., Lambertville.

Each spring the Delaware River in Lambertville is home to returning shad making their way back from the Atlantic Ocean to spawn before returning to the ocean. Local residents can be found fishing for shad on Lewis Island, the only shad fishery left on the Delaware River.
