SFA celebrates the landscape in new exhibit

Posted

Landscape is the focus in September when SFA Gallery presents “Susan Blubaugh/ New Work,” running from Sept. 1 to 30, with an opening reception for the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

The exhibit showcases small plein-air paintings, as well as large studio works based on the smaller studies.

Susan Blubaugh studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design with Isaac Soyer, Harvey Dinnerstein, Hilary Holmes, and privately with Burton Silverman and Curt Hanson. In 2001, Blubaugh moved to Hunterdon County, N.J., where she continues to paint landscapes, both outdoors and in the studio.

“Her love of painting directly from nature has stayed with her since I first encountered her painting in Central Park in the 1980s,” Hanson said. “Many artists have shorthand methods and flashy effects that hide their lack of ability. With Susan, I always see a patient seeking of visual truth imbued with the excitement of honest discovery.”

This is Blubaugh’s second exhibit at SFA, 10 Bridge Street, Suite 7, Frenchtown, N.J.
