Severe flooding across Bucks County; more rain expected

Posted

Heavy rain and powerful winds caused widespread flooding across the region, prompting multiple road closures, power outages and school schedule disruptions.

As of Wednesday morning, just under 3,000 Peco customers were without power, with 862 of those in Lower Makefield Township, according to a spokesperson for the utility company.

“Crews are assessing the damage and hope to restore power within 24 to 48 hours,” the spokesperson said.

Peco cautions the public not to touch or move downed wires, which should be “considered energized and extremely dangerous.”

Residents in Riegelsville Borough reported power outages across the small, rural community, which is served by First Energy.

Six marine rescues were reported in Bucks, including two people who were rescued from their vehicle in Warwick.

Sections of Route 32 (River Road) are closed due to flooding, as are seven other roads in Bucks County, including parts of Route 413 in Buckingham Township and Route 332 in Warminster Township, according to a PennDOT spokeswoman.

Rainfall totals in Bucks County, according to the National Weather Service are:

•Warrington, 3.91 inches

•Buckingham, 3.5 inches

•Delaware River at Stockton, 3.3 inches

•Chalfont, 3.23 inches

•Doylestown Airport, 3.07 inches

•Holland, 2.94 inches

•Furlong, 2.83 inches

•Delaware River at Washington Crossing, 2.75 inches

•Ivyland, 2.47 inches

•Langhorne, 2.46 inches

•Newtown, 2.43 inches

•Yardley, 2.11 inches

•Quakertown Airport, 2.04 inches

•Croydon, 1.83 inches

More rain is expected late in the day Friday, which could be heavy at times, said senior Accweather.com meteorologist Tom Kines. Rainfall could be more than an inch, he said.

While it’s unusual to have “two soakers in a row,” said Kines, “if both were snow, that be more unusual.”
