Sen. Bob Casey visits Bristol child care center

Posted

U.S. Senator Bob Casey last week visited Children of God Educational Services in Bristol to tour the facility, read to students, and participate in a roundtable discussion on the state of child care and early childhood education.

The roundtable included Children of God owner/director Valerie Hamilton; United Way of Bucks County CEO Marissa Christie; Donna Kirn, senior director of Community Education & Professional Certification; and Donna Cooper, Dan O’Brien and Kevin Burgess, all of Children First.

“Child care centers like Children of God are the lifeblood of our communities: they give kids a strong start and let parents work with the peace of mind that their kids are safe and learning,” Casey said in a statement that followed the meeting. “I joined local leaders at Children of God to hear about the challenges families face to access quality, affordable child care and the work many organizations in Bucks County are doing to reduce those barriers.”

They discussed a Bucks County Community College-run pilot program to get early childhood educators certified through a boot camp.

Other topics included child care affordability, paid leave for workers and care center capacity.
