Saint Andrew’s Concert Series continues with Bridge Street Chamber Players

Following a hugely successful inaugural concert in March of this year, The Bridge Street Chamber Players will present their second concert at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Lambertville, N.J., at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23.

The historic church building (1892), at 50 York St. (corner of York and Main streets), has been for years the venue for concerts by area musicians.

The theme of June’s concert is the influence of folk music on classical chamber music. The program includes works by Josef Haydn and Bela Bartok, and the centerpiece of the concert will be the “Piano Quintet (Opus 81) of 1887” by Antonin Dvorak. The quintet is considered one of Dvorak’s finest compositions, and here, also reminds us of the 120th anniversary of Dvorak’s death in May of 1904.

The Bridge Street Chamber players was organized by Michael Locati, a violinist who has studied with members of the famed Guarneri String Quartet, and his son, Gabriel, a classical mandolinist. For this concert, the ensemble is joined by Elena Smith, cellist, and Josef Kauffman, violin.

The concert is free, but it is hoped that donations will be made to enable Saint Andrew’s to continue its mission of presenting area musicians and to defray the expenses for participating musicians, ($20 per person suggested). Parking is on the street.
