Run or walk a new route for the D&L Heritage half marathon this fall

Posted

Registration is open for the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor’s (DLNHC) 11th annual half marathon, the D&L Heritage Half Marathon Run & Walk, that will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6. The course will feature a new route that travels through three counties of the five-county Corridor - Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton.

The new D&L Heritage Half route is a flat, out and back course. It will start at Riverview Park in East Penn Township and follow the former Lehigh Valley Railroad from Riverview Park south to Slatington, cross the Lehigh River, and continue north on the Lehigh Navigation towpath in Walnutport. Participants will then reach a turnaround point and return to Riverview Park. The journey will entail a peaceful route with breathtaking views of the Lehigh River, with a flat pathway that is coated with crushed limestone and has only 70 feet of elevation change. It is a great route for first-time marathon runners and is particularly inviting to competitive walkers.

DLNHC is recruiting volunteers. Individuals or groups can sign up to assist with pre-race efforts, as well as race-day needs. All volunteers receive a commemorative T-shirt, free lunch on race day, and the opportunity to make the event memorable for everyone involved.

Interested participants can register for the D&L Heritage Half and/or the D&L Trail Challenge.
