Rose Helen Korney of Lambertville, NJ, died on May 16, 2024 at the Bridgeway Senior Care Center, Bridgewater, NJ. She was 99 years old. She was looking forward to her 100th birthday this June 13th.

Born in Trenton, NJ, Rose was a lifelong resident of Lambertville and was well known to all. She was a dedicated parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church and was a graduate of the parish elementary school. Rose lived her faith. She regularly quoted prayer and scripture and was always ready to share her message of faith with others. She was active in church activities, often volunteered and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Dedicated to the Right to Life movement, Rose twice participated in the March for Life in Washington DC. Rose loved music. She always raised her voice in song at church and loved to dance. She enjoyed stopping to hear music at Havana in New Hope and did not hesitate to call the local police to give her a ride home.

Rose was a woman of determination. She was strong-willed, opinionated, generous and caring. She was concerned for those in need and was quick to share whatever she had. She enjoyed shopping trips and was careful to eat healthy, fresh foods. During the Second World War, Rose joined the work effort and cleaned coaches for the Reading Railroad. She later worked in the kitchen at the Lambertville House.

Rose was truly a unique character and she will be long remembered. All her life, Rose could be seen walking all over Lambertville with her cart. Rose was never without her cart and hat.

Rose was one of four daughters. Her sisters Elizabeth, Jeanette and Helen, all died in childhood. Rose was the daughter of the late Maxium and Anastazia Szynkarek Korney. Her father was a native of the Ukraine and Rose proudly coached him in his preparation for his United State citizenship exam. Among her many friends were Irene Tracy, Bert Johnson, Laura Darby, Lou Failla, Diana and Don Veth, Jim Kuhn and her extended family at St. John’s church. A special friend to Rose was the late Elaine Joiner.
