Room for Kindness Pop-Up slated for New Hope

Posted

Beat the heat and warm your heart at a local kindness celebration.

Meet at Wax N Scent Studio, 15 N. Main St., New Hope, between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13 for a morning of expressing gratitude and paying it forward.

Write a thank you note to someone in your life—a friend, relative, teacher, colleague—someone you most want to thank for doing something meaningful for you. Note cards and pens will be supplied.

There will be a special guest appearance on Sunday by Tal Ben-Shahar, psychologist and New York Times best-selling author, who will guide attendees in loving kindness meditation.

After you write your thank you note, you can either mail it or save it as a keepsake, if the person is no longer living.

If you bring a child with you, he/she is welcome to express gratitude through drawing. Paper and crayons will be provided.

For participants who would like to share their notes with others, organizers will take photos and post them on Room for Kindness’ Facebook page.

There also will be a Gratitude Wall where you can post a sticky note expressing what you are grateful for today.

Studies show that when you express gratitude, it can:

• Improve your mental health, your relationships, and even boost your physical well-being.

• Increase your level of happiness by shifting your focus from what is wrong in your life to what is right.

• Help foster positivity and reduce stress and anxiety.

As psychologist Tal Ben-Shahar says, “When you appreciate the good, the good appreciates.

Interested in paying it forward? There will be a QR code that links to a site where you can find local volunteer opportunities. There also will be a bin on-site if you would like to bring a non-perishable grocery item to donate to the Delaware Valley Food Pantry, the longest serving food pantry in the region.

Want to learn how to cultivate kindness in your everyday life? There will be a creative project to help you do so.
