Editor's Note: This story has been updated to include new information. A black bear has been sighted in the backyard of a residence near the intersection of Ferry and Iron Hill roads in Doylestown Township, police said at 10:22 a.m. Thursday. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has been notified and is formulating a game plan, police added.

The Solebury Township Police Department received a report Monday, of a large black bear roaming the area of Aquetong Road and Upper Mountain Road Upper / York Road.

“We warn residents to maintain a safe distance from the bear, not to approach the bear and to secure their garbage, bird feeders and other food that may attract the bear. Make no attempts to feed the bear,” police said via a posting on Crimewatch just before 3 p.m. Monday.

The report came two days after a black bear was spotted in Tinicum Township. No word on whether it was the same bear.

“Anyone who happens to come in contact with a bear should remain calm, make noise and slowly back away,” police added.
