Reading is “going to the dogs” in Doylestown – literally

Posted

Beginning Jan. 7, the Friends of the Doylestown Library will host Reading to the Dogs for readers of all ages.

The program, in partnership with Comfort Caring Canines Therapy Dogs, Inc., will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the first Saturday of each month (January through May), at the Doylestown Library, 150 S. Pine St., Doylestown.

“It is as educational as it is entertaining to read to dogs,” said Steve Schreiner, president of the Friends of the Doylestown Library. “Certified canines provide a calming effect by acting as a nonjudgmental audience when a story is read out loud to them. This confidence booster can make all the difference to some, and possibly turn others into lifelong readers.”

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and preregistration is recommended – send an email to: friendsofdoylestownlibrary@gmail.com.

(Walks-in will be admitted while space is available.)

“We’re pleased to again offer this popular program, and to provide books that participants can read to the dogs and then take home with them,” said Kathy MacLean, program chairperson, Friends of the Doylestown Library.
