Pultizer Prize-winning author coming to Washington Crossing Park

Posted
Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Rick Atkinson will appear at Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 for a lecture, Q&A and signing of his new book, “The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777.”

Tickets are $60 per person for admission and a signed book or $90 for two people and a signed book. Tickets can be purchased online only at WashingtonCrossingPark.org/event/rick-atkinson.

“The British Are Coming” is the first volume of Atkinson’s intended “Revolution Trilogy,” a history of the American rebellion through 1783. The book recounts the first 21 months of America’s war for independence.

From the battles of Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter 1776-77, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force.

The story is also told from the British perspective, making the mortal conflict between the redcoats and the rebels all the more compelling.

Atkinson is internationally known for his many best-selling books that cover World War II to the Persian Gulf War. His awards include the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for history; the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for public service; and the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting.

Atkinson’s appearance is co-hosted by the nonprofit Friends of Washington Crossing Park and The David Library of the American Revolution, both of which will receive a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales.

At the request of the publisher, the author will only sign books purchased through this event, from the park’s gift shop, or Farley’s Bookshop in New Hope. A receipt is required.
