Play offers portrait of legendary Texas governor

Posted

Montgomery Theater presents “Ann” by Holland Taylor, Feb. 2 - 26.

The show may not be suitable for children under age 17.

“Ann” is an intimate, no-holds-barred portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary governor of Texas. The “inspiring and hilarious” new play brings the audience face to face with a complex, colorful and captivating character bigger than the state from which she hailed. The play takes a revealing look at the impassioned woman who enriched the lives of her followers, friends and family.

After playing throughout Texas to sold-out audiences, ”Ann” went on to win critical acclaim in Chicago, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and on Broadway at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater.

Texas native April Woodall returns to Montgomery Theater, where she most recently performed with Sonny Leo in “Souvenir,” a fantasia on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, and previously in Everybody Loves Opal, and “The Last Night of Ballyhoo.” Regional credits include theaters in New York, New Jersey, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, Virginia, and Illinois.
