Peter Hutton Ott

Peter Hutton Ott (95) passed away peacefully, in Doylestown Hospital, on May 27, 2023, with his friend and caregiver of many years, Dinesh Rathore, by his side.

Born Aug. 24, 1927 to Bertha and John Ott, Peter lived his playful young life in New Jersey with his two siblings, Gail (Dippel) and Nancy (Heyniger), along with many relatives and friends. Family vacations were at golf courses (parents were avid golfers).

Peter graduated from Lehigh University and was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran. He lived in Brooklyn Heights and then moved to Bucks County in Pennsylvania, to the rural idyll of Ottsville.

He lived in the original house (with renovations every now and then) for quite a while. Sixty-five years to be exact! His nieces (Linda and Kim Heyniger) and nephews (John Dippel, Jeffrey Dippel and Kurt Dippel) spent many summer days exploring the woods and creeks on the land.

Peter was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal and brave. His good neighbors Neil and Martie Kyde will attest to that!

He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all the DVD’s subscribed from the Teaching Company! The amazing thing was he could fix or build (almost) anything! He was a great self-taught chef and baking was his passion. He also loved Indian desserts and “Kheer” (rice pudding) and “Gajar ka Halwa” (carrot cake) prepared by Sunita were devoured with much joy.

When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those he encountered. While Peter followed no organized religion, during his later years he became inquisitive about Hinduism and Buddhism. In that light, Sunita and Dinesh did a small prayer at Bridgewater Hindu Temple.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
