Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Student Exhibition opens

Posted

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) presents the 121st annual Student Exhibition (ASE), on display from May 13 through June 5, as the nation’s first art museum and school celebrates the transformative power of art and art-making.

PAFA will kick off the celebratory exhibition with its Preview Party, an event that directly benefits student scholarships, from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Hosted by the Women’s Committee of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Preview Party offers guests the first chance to view and purchase nearly 1,000 paintings, sculptures, works on paper and installations.

ASE offers a rare chance to view and purchase works by the art world’s emerging talents. This year’s exhibition features artwork from over 60 of PAFA’s BFA, Post-Baccalaureate, and MFA graduating students as they embark on their professional careers as emerging artists.

“The Annual Student Exhibition is a unique opportunity for an inside look at the direction of where art is headed with this next generation of artists,” said Eric Pryor, president and CEO of PAFA.

The exhibition will also include a number of prizes awarded to standout students for their work, including several $5,000 prizes awarded for travel. Many of these awards also include one year of PAFA tuition.

Students retain the majority of the purchase price for works sold, and all proceeds from the Preview Party and a portion of the art sales benefit much-needed student scholarships at PAFA. Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance online or at the door. For patrons unable to attend in-person, all student artwork will also be available to purchase online starting Friday, May 13.
