Pennridge OKs controversial curriculum consulting contract

Posted

A deeply divided Pennridge School Board last night narrowly approved a contract with a curriculum consultant that one director called "unqualified" with "political motivations.”

Vermillion Education LLC is a four-month-old firm with ties to Hillsdale College and its “1776 Project,” which critics say whitewashes history. It will be paid $125 per hour to work with administrators and teachers to update the district's K-13 social studies curriculum.

Board President Dave Reiss, and directors Megan Banis-Clemens, Jordan Blomgren, Bob Cormack, and Ricki Chaikin voted in favor of the contract. Ronald Wurz, Joan Cullen, Jonathan Russell, and Christine Batycki voted against it.
