Summit for employers on programs, resources and funding to upskill and train workforce

Posted

In an effort to help businesses fill open positions and address critical skills gaps for their existing employees, PA CareerLink Bucks County, in conjunction with PA CareerLink Montgomery County, is holding a free learning seminar for employers titled “Train to Retain.”

The event takes place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at PA CareerLink Bucks County, in the Bucks County Technology Park, 4800 E. Street Road, #50 in Trevose. A free continental breakfast will be served, and free parking is available on-site.

Employers will have the opportunity to meet experts who will provide guidance to identify federal funding and no-cost resources to upskill employees, train new hires, hire young adults for short-term projects and develop Registered Apprenticeship programs for the most in-demand, hard-to-fill occupations.

Other topics include:

•On-the-job training to train new hires on hard skills.

•Incumbent Worker Training to use third-party training to upskill existing employees.

•Paid work experience to hire youth and young adults for temporary work experience that can turn into full-time hires.

•Registered Apprenticeship as an earn-while-you-learn solution for hard-to-fill technical and high-demand positions.

“The summit is the ideal occasion for employers to learn about training and reskilling opportunities, connect with subject experts, and explore funding options that can help relieve some of the financial burden necessary to attract, train, and retain qualified employees,” said Billie Barnes, executive director, Bucks County Workforce and Economic Development.

A panel of area employers who have experience utilizing a variety of funding streams to train and upskill their workforce will discuss funding opportunities, and representatives from Bucks and Montgomery counties who coordinate access to funding will be available for questions.

“Funding for work-based learning is so important to our local economy and our workforce because it provides opportunities for individuals to gain practical experience as full-time employees while on a career path with our top-notch local employers,” said Jenni Butler, executive director, MontcoWorks.
