PA Biotechnology Center hosts virtual “Shark Tank”-style Entrepreneur Spotlight

Posted

The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center (PABC) in Doylestown will hold its Sixth Annual Entrepreneur Spotlight Showcase from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23.

This event is intended for professionals in the investment community, finance, the life sciences, economic development and related fields. There is no cost to attend the PABC Entrepreneur Spotlight, but pre-registration is required at biotech-spotlight.org/.

Due to COVID-19, the event will be completely virtual. The entrepreneurs running three early-stage biotech companies that are headquartered at the PABC will pitch their companies to a panel of top-tier business experts. Following their pitch, the presenters will field questions from the panelists and the audience.

The experts on the ‘Shark Tank’-style panel include Katherine Ku, internationally known for her years running Stanford University’s technology transfer program.

The three companies are developing distinctly different technologies. One is working on molecules that target DNA Damage and Response pathways to treat cancer. Another is focused on developing novel therapeutics using cannabidiol for hard-to-treat cancers. The third is targeting non-viral human proteins to enhance their natural ability to fight infections, such as viral hepatitis.

Each company will give a 10-minute presentation, which will be followed by a five-minute question-and-answer session. Audience members then will be asked to join a one-hour webinar for the company of their choosing. The evening will conclude with an awards ceremony.
